Hand-carved Penguin, carved
from one of the remaining pieces of the ship that carried Richard Byrd to
the South Pole. It was originally called "The Sampson" but was
renamed "The City of New York" many years later after service to
the South Pole; it was lost at sea during a fire and some of the ship
washed-up on the beach. Stamped 1939. Guaranteed to be an actual piece of
Admiral Byrd’s ship. Approx. 4.5" tall. |

1916 (2nd series), charting the exploits of Captain Scott's polar
expedition. Fine character portraits of Scott, Commander Evans, Captain
Oats, Dr. Wilson, Lieut. Bowers, Demetri (the Russian dog driver), Oscar
Wisting (at the Pole), Lindstrom, the Cook, and Capt Amundsen. There are
also pictures of Christmas and even a game of football on the ice.
Wonderful colour souvenir, each card with description to reverse. Approx.
2 3/4" x 1 3/4" each. Good condition throughout. Would look
stunning framed. |

binding a little loose here and there, all maps present, small tear to top
left spine. Overall age wear.
Vol. II - 3rd Edition, 534 pages, a
few dog ears, overall age toning, a 5mm bar loss to the top of the spine
(see photo). All maps and illustrations present.
Though far from mint, these two
volumes are still in acceptable condition. The illustrations are simply
awe inspiring!! |

"The Most Wonderful Monument in the World". Only 11 miles from
safety, Scott's tomb now below this Cairn, surmounted with a cross. At the
sides are Captain Scott's skis planted upright in a small pile of frozen
snow.
The paper is fragile at the centre fold, though near complete. Ideal for
framing. Overall age wear & foxing, simply adding to the charm of this
fragile newspaper. 15" x 12". |

Antarctic - popular edition, Nov. 1910. Published by William Heinemann
London 1910. Colour and black & white illustrations and 47
photographs. There is a fold out map at the end of the volume,
"General Map showing the explorations and surveys of the Expedition,
route and surveys of the Southern Journey Party 1908-09. The map has a
tear to the page, not affecting the print (see photo). 368 pages, two are
loose near the centre of the book. The cover has a gold embossed image of
the Northern Party at the magnetic pole. The spine has a little age
toning. In all an acceptable copy of this much sought after book complete
with (the often missing) map. Approximately 7 1/2" x 5". |
